Kungsleden Trail // Lapland, Sweden
This is our 5 days Kungsleden trek in the Swedish Lapland! We started from Nikkaluokta -> Kebnekaise -> Sälka -> Alesjaure -> Abiskojaure -> Abisko Turistation 🍁
The weather was punishing yet kind, for us during the trek, and the landscape was without a doubt breath taking. The cold arctic rain pelted down hard on us on the first day, leaving our rain proof garment useless. It wasn’t fun threading through slippery rocky and muddy terrain in this weather, especially with a 20kg dead weight on our backs. With our gloves, clothes, shoes soaked and even our backpacks wet, we were brrrr….very cold and miserable. We couldn’t fully enjoy the scenery in front of us and soon, our inner selves hated this trek, and questioned why did we embark on this trek in the first place. As the rain continued through the night and leaked into our tent, we even had thoughts of giving up, and turning back the next morning.
Despite much lamentations, we allowed ourselves to be captivated by the scenery and silently pressed on from one camp ground to another. Each day, we were frustrated with our temporary immobility and uncoordinated selves as we battled the numbing frost and biting wind to set up and break camp. But we rejoiced in the simple warm meals and Milos we make, and the relative comfort in our sleeping bags (and watching offline Netflix with potato chips!). From time to time, we were rewarded with rainbows, blue skies, clear views of the valley, a little warmth from the sun and even reindeers! We are certainly glad to have completed the trek, knowing that we survived and endured! I guess thats life, not always smooth sailing, but every cloud does have a silver lining.
